COMMUNITY TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMES

Providing coaching and mentoring and practical basic skills that enables participants to have access to positive streams of income and making positive and lasting life changes.

  • Entrepreneurial Development Programme

Many of the youth coming through our programmes have destructive backgrounds in serious crime, gangsterism or prostitution. We have dramatic stories of transformation.  However, our biggest challenge to date has been to substitute their negative income source with a positive source of income, enough to sustain their personal livelihoods and provide for their families in non-destructive ways.  This has frustrated us and slows down the transformation that we are committed to pursue.

The first ‘Micro Business Start up’ accredited training programmes commenced in March 2018 as a pilot project.  Our main goals with this programme, is two-fold.  Firstly we assist our clients coming from backgrounds of crime, gangsterism and prostitution with skills, resources and the ability to substitute their negative income source with a positive source of income, enough to sustain their personal livelihoods and provide for their families in non-destructive ways.

In addition and running concurrently to this, selected staff members will complete a “Train the Trainer” component that will raise up 3 staff field workers, most of whom come from difficult backgrounds or have been previously incarcerated, as facilitators to offer this training as part of what we do.  City Mission will at that stage be licensed to offer this training.

  • Basic Computer Classes

Knowing computer skills is an important basic skill that everybody should know and be able to use in their daily lives.  Many of our clients who attend these classes have never had access to a computer. With the aim of instilling a sense of comfort and boosting the participants confidence, as well as teaching a much needed skill, we run 3 classes trainings per year.

Due to capacity we are able to accommodate 10 participants per class, twice a week for a period of 6 consecutive weeks introducing them to the basics of packages like MS Word and Excel  In addition with the skills acquired, they are able to produce their own CV’s as well as learn to set up and use their own email accounts, increasing employability.
